Do Christians realize that Marriage existed before the Belief was even thought of?

I'm tired of hearing (I live in the great state of Texas) that Marriage is for two things. Procreation of kids and God fearing people only, you people forget something along the decades? If you look into history, marriage existed far before Christianity even existed.
